There are so many ways to make your bathroom feel bigger, and we are here for it!
The internet is currently POPPIN’ with so many rental bathroom upgrades from peel’n’stick floors to peel’n’stick counter patterns.
Honey, they got us peelin’ and stickin’ on everything. There are really crafty ways to upgrade a really boring apartment bathroom. Because, why would they even rent us somethin’ ugly like that in the first place? The disrespect is real.
ANYWAYS, let’s take it back to the basics. Because when you first move in, your stuff needs to be organized and put in place before we can start decorating.
When it comes to maximizing a small space, one of the first things to think about is vertical space. I’m talking about running up that wall with vertical shelves, vertical cabinets, and vertical vertical vertical!
The next biggest thing is concealed storage. There’s nothing worse than visible clutter that makes your already small space look even smaller.
Cabinet and drawer storage are useful tools for keeping your small bathroom clutter-free.
Here’s some creative and beautiful ways to maximize the space of your small bathroom:
This is kind of an obvious one, but bear with me. Many apartments already have a built-in towel bar in their bathroom. Now, I don’t know who they thought was hanging their bath towel on that miniature fixture. That bar is only big enough for a hand towel at most.
Over-door hooks provide so much more space for hanging a wet towel or bathrobe. Especially if you live with someone else.
They’re also pretty inconspicuous and keep the towels out of the way. You can get one like this for cheap at Walmart or Marshalls, or you can order one from Amazon.
Wall shelves are easy decor accessories that also double down as storage. You can pretty much put anything you want (within reason) on those shelves including folded towels or extra toilet paper rolls.
But if you don’t want to drill any holes into the wall, here’s a cool hack: flip a small shelf upside down and place it over a built-in towel bar. You can reinforce the back of the shelf with command strips so it rests against the wall solidly.
This is such an easy way to convert a boring towel bar into a gorgeous shelf. Small canisters and reed diffusers go really well on this shelf.
This is an easy, no-drill option for vertical storage over the toilet. This type of storage has incredibly strong suction cups that secure the rack over the toilet.
I have never seen suction cups this strong before, sis. This thing will literally not budge so you don’t need to worry about it falling off. A lot of these racks also come with a toilet paper holder for added convenience.
If you can dish out a little more cash, I recommend an over-the-toilet cabinet. These are free standing and can hold A LOT of stuff. The doors from the cabinet help to conceal all your products and maintains a clutter-free appearance.
A small storage stand like this one fits in any small crevice in your lil’ bathroom shack. LOL.
It’s perfect between the tub and toilet, or between the toilet and sink. There’s space for the concealed storage of cleaner bottles and there’s an extra slot for toilet paper.
It’s a useful piece of vertical storage that also adds a little style to your bathroom.
The best way to utilize under-sink cabinets is with stackable shelves. The shelves are great for smaller items and have drawers for easy access.
I use clear ones like this one that allow you to see straight through. But I also like the metal shelves for bigger items like shampoo or cleaning products. Plus, it has the added bonus of a pullout drawer for easy access.
Organizing a drawer brings so much peace to my life. There could be an alien invasion and I’d be at peace knowing my drawers are organized. But for real, organizing your drawers saves so much time and space in the long run.
You can find drawer trays in all shapes in sizes, but I prefer squares and rectangles. Think of it as a game of Tetris.
You can legit put anything you want in them and rearrange as much as you want. That’s the beauty of it! Scrunchies, tampons, rubber bands, and razors are just a few of the many items you can place in them.
If you have a large mirror in your bathroom, these toothbrush holders are great little devices to keep your toothbrush out of the way.
The holder suctions right onto a mirror and. They’re also a really great travel accessory. My sister is obsessed with them.
The self-adhesive shower caddies are a game changer. They stick right onto your shower wall with incredible strength.
I don’t know what kind of glue they’re using but let’s just say the bond between the caddy and the wall is stronger than my last relationship!
If you have trust issues, a hanging shower caddy is the easiest way to store your soaps, scrubs, loofahs, and razors. They hook right onto your existing shower head so you don’t have to put all your trust in suction cups or adhesives.
You can find one pretty much anywhere for cheap and select from different tiers. I personally like to use a two or three tiered caddy for more storage.
A suction towel ring is a great gadget to have for a hand towel that you just can’t find a spot for.
These suction easily onto a mirror, window, or tiled wall. This nifty gadget easily transforms your boring area into a more luxurious feel.
A free standing toilet paper stand is a great alternative that holds several rolls while you’re on the can. Instead of refilling one roll at a time, you can keep a small reserve next to you.
A toilet paper shelf is a sleek and functional storage that goes great in the guest bathroom. You can store small items like tampons and flushable wipes by the most convenient spot.
If you have small countertops in your bathroom, it can be hard to fit everything you want next to your sink. A countertop organizer saves so much space by clearing up the clutter.
Gone are the days when your counters looked overwhelmingly crazy.
DIY Mirror Frame
Framing a mirror is a final step that gives your bathroom character. The easiest and fastest way to do this upgrade is with electric tape.
Yup, you heard that right. If you want a sleek finish to your organized bathroom, line the perimeter of your mirror with electric tape.
This gives it a smooth finish and somehow makes the bathroom feel a little bigger. Electric tape now comes in different colors, so just pick what matches your theme and you’ve got a completed look!
