Today, we’re talking about apartment organization on a dollar budget!
So you’ve moved into your own place but need to spend more money to fill it with stuff. This post is about DIY organization hacks you can create from one dollar items.
Dollar Tree has locations EVERYWHERE that offer hidden gems for organization. From bins to baskets, there are so many creative ways to organize your space for only a few dollars.
Here’s a few ideas for DIY apartment organization:
DIY Small Bins
I transformed this sad white bin into a fabulous makeup container for a grand total of three bucks. Since it came out so well, I created two more! This is the easiest DIY for organizing an apartment closet.
Using just three Dollar Tree products ( contact paper, labels, and a bin), I was able to elevate my closet game.
I don’t know about y’all, but it’s giving chic boutique on a budget sis!
DIY First Aid Kit
I cannot believe how much a pre-made first aid kit can cost. When they said healthcare was expensive, they meant it! But I was able to create an easy DIY First Aid Kit that costs a lot less than a pre-made one.
I bought a close-lid bin from dollar tree and just filled it with first aid items from the store like:
- Band Aids
- Reusable Hot/Cold Pack
- Medical Tape
- Gauze
- Tweezers
- Gloves
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Hydrogen Peroxide
- Petroleum Jelly
Not bad for a grand total of ten bucks!
DIY Rope Basket
In college, I needed a quick basket to store extra blankets, but I wasn’t looking for something crazy expensive. So, it was time to get creative.
Dollar tree has these plain laundry baskets for $1.25. Sis, I could not stand looking at that basic basket any longer.
So, I got some rope from Dollar Tree and wrapped it around the basket with some hot glue. Then I got a black pillowcase from the store and cut it to mold the inside of the basket.
Just like that, it went from basic to boho for only three bucks!
Starter Toolbox Kit
Not much maintenance is needed on your part when living in an apartment. The landlord is responsible for the maintenance issues. Still, a small tool kit is a good idea to keep around in case of emergencies. Creating a DIY toolbox is a great way to keep some miscellaneous tools organized.
Dollar Tree has small and durable toolboxes that fit snugly anywhere. It’s easy to fill with tools from the store like:
- Screwdriver
- Pliers
- Electric Tape
- Rope
- Nails/Screws
- Zip Ties
- Paint Scrapers
- Safety Gloves
It’s also useful to keep some extra nuts and bolts from the moving process inside this toolbox. It may sound corny, but you too can be a handyman for a grand total of nine bucks!
DIY Storage Bins
Dollar Tree has very plain baskets that are great for easy storage.
Spray painting these baskets is an easy way to make them fit any aesthetic. I personally wanted some silver items in my bathroom and it couldn’t have been easier to accomplish it.
Check out these originally brown baskets that I spraypainted silver. I also spraypainted my trashcan to fit the same look.
