Find out my favorite hair products that could also work for you.
Let’s talk about some incredible hair products that nourished my hair back to life!
I’ve spent a decade trying to figure out what my hair likes and what it doesn’t. She’s a bougie girl. But once I did find the formula, my hair ate it up!
I have 4c and 4b curly hair. That being said, it’s important to understand that not all hair products work for the same hair type.
What works for me may not necessarily work for you. But it would be a disservice to not help another sis potentially find what works for their hair. So here’s my golden list:
Nexxus Shampoo/Conditioner
I have tried a lot of shampoos and conditioners in my life. Nexxus has been a game changer. Shout out to my hairdresser, Carol, for putting me onto this one.
It’s the only shampoo that doesn’t completely dry my hair out. And the conditioner leaves my hair SO soft!
Rice Water (I make my own)
My family is Caribbean, so I always have rice at home!
I always advocate for making your own rice water. That way, you know that it’s 100% natural.
It’s so easy to make your own rice water. All you need is 2 cups of uncooked rice. Add cold water to the rice and mix it around. You should see the water turn white. That’s all those yummy proteins that your hair needs. Drain that water into its own spray bottle and add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. I prefer peppermint.
It lasts for 5-7 days.
I apply the rice water after conditioning my hair and before I apply my favorite hair mask.
Funny story…my aunt loved the magic of rice water so much that she started making a paste out of it and applying it as face moisturizer!
Kreyol Essence Hair Mask
I like to mix this hair mask with a little bit of conditioner for maximum moisture. Typically, I leave this mask on for an hour under a shower cap. It’s easy to get some blogging done while my hair is hydrating. It’s multitasking at its best!
Chi Heat Protectant
Whenever I need to apply heat to my hair, this is my go-to. It’s a brand that my hairdresser swears by.
When I want a fabulous blowout, this helps me create it confidently.
Haitian Castor Oil
Sis, this is magic in a bottle. This oil is like pure gold from the motherland! Kreyol Essence created this brand with rosemary mint and now the secret is out. Castor oil is now being rediscovered by the masses ( not like it was ever lost!)
Not only has it grown and repaired my hair, but I’ve also used it for my eyelashes and nails.
When I had thin edges, I applied this every other day, and watched my edges grow back within two months.
Ulta, JCPenney, Amazon, and sometimes Marshalls typically carry this brand.
Foxybae Leave-in Conditioner
To seal in my castor oil, I apply a leave-in conditioner. Foxybae is a product I’ve used on and off as a decent moisturizer.
Mielle Leave-in Conditioner
If I’m not using the Foxybae Leave-in conditioner, then I go for Mielle’s Honey Leave-In Conditioner. Both are pretty hydrating, but I honestly haven’t figure out which one my hair likes more.

Biggest Lessons I’ve learned when it comes to my hair:
Less is more…
Limit every step of your hair care process to 1-2 products. When washing use one shampoo. If conditioning, use one conditioner. When oiling, use one oil. If moisturizing, use one moisturizer.
Buildup is the opposite of progress, as ironic as that sounds. Too much product on your strands can limit your hair growth and can cost a lot of money.
Hydration is vital…
Water is truly the best moisturizer. So make sure to use water-based products. In any product other than oil, the first ingredient should be water.
Cool it with the heat…
Adding heat to your hair should be done in moderation. Give your curls a regular break from the straighteners and curling wands.
Protective styles…
Putting your hair in braids helps to limit exposure to elements that work against your hair. Also incorporate satin or silk pillowcases in your bed to limit any dehydration.
The right diet is important…
What goes into your body nourishes all your living parts. That includes your hair. Give your digestive tract the same TLC you would give your hair.
Invest in your hair…
Quality products do cost more. That’s just a fact. It was hard for me to get past that concept at first. But once I got serious about my hair journey, I knew it would require an investment. And it’s definitely been paying off.
Patience…
Seriously sis, be patient with your hair. Meditate over it. Pray over it. Do whatever it takes to nourish it. But don’t force it to grow faster than it’s meant to. Work on strengthening and hydrating your beautiful mane. Patience is honestly everything.
