Save some space and leave these items behind!
Hey sis! I know you’re excited to finally move into that expensive dorm of yours. Yass, get your money’s worth!
It’s easy to get caught up in the decorations and organizing. But if you overdo it, you might end up with a cluttered mess before midterms arrive.
Since I’m a lunatic for a detailed list, here are items you don’t really need while living in a dorm:
Coffee Maker
Ah yes, we love our morning coffee. That’s why dining halls offer a variety of coffees that you can customize however you want. I mean, you’re already there grabbing breakfast.
And if you have a habit of skipping breakfast, then pushing yourself to the dining hall for your coffee helps you get in the habit of actually having breakfast.
Nails/Picture Hanging Tools
Majority of dorm room walls are made of cinder block. But most importantly, there are restrictions on what holes you can put in the walls.
Instead, use command strips and hooks to hang your pictures and curtains. They’re also really easy to remove from dorm walls.
Disposable Water Bottles
Gone are the days of recycling those plastic water bottles for a grand total of sixty cents.
All you really need is one reusable water bottle.
You can fill up your bottle almost anywhere on a college campus. Even after the dining hall closes, there’s always water available along multiple locations of a dorm building.
Cooking Pot/Pan
Unless you plan on using that pan as a weapon, leave it at home.
If you’re craving a hot meal, try using this nifty appliance designed for dorms.
Toilet Paper
We don’t need to go into too much detail on this one, but there’s no need to bring a whole pack of toilet paper. If you want to bring one extra roll for whatever reason, then do what makes you happy, sis.
Iron
I mean, where would you even put an ironing table? There are alternatives to getting your clothes wrinkle-free.
You can toss your clothes in the dryer with a couple of ice cubes. You can use a flat iron or a wrinkle reducing spray. Or, steam the wrinkles away in the bathroom.
Shovel
Although a shovel is really useful when you have a car on campus or live in an apartment, this is not necessary for a dorm. If a winter storm gets bad enough, they’ll just cancel classes and events. You really won’t be going anywhere.
The school is responsible for cleaning up the sidewalks and roads on campus.
Candles
Alright, put away the patchouli candles because you are NOT going to be able to use it.
Why?
Because your school doesn’t want a fire started by your flower scented candle. Schools don’t play around when it comes to open flames.
Instead, opt for a small space freshener like this one.
